Exploring How Somatic Psychotherapy Can Support Survivors of Sexual Trauma: A Holistic Approach

In this paper, I aim to explore how somatic psychotherapy can support individuals who have experienced sexual trauma, addressing it from a holistic perspective that includes both physiological and psychological aspects. Sexual abuse is a deeply traumatic experience with devastating effects
on victims. My research is based on qualitative interviews with three somatic psychotherapists, aiming to better understand how this therapeutic modality can facilitate the integration and healing of these experiences.

Through data analysis, we identified four fundamental principles of the somatic approach, fifteen common themes in the therapeutic material, and nine key interventions that can help reprocess trauma and foster therapeutic growth. Somatic psychotherapy, supported by neuroscience, demonstrates an optimal approach to treating sexual trauma, offering concrete and practical tools for therapists. This study aims not only to offer a solid theoretical foundation but also to provide specific exercises that can be incorporated into daily therapeutic practice. Healing from sexual trauma requires a deep understanding and a careful approach, and somatic psychotherapy offers a promising path for the comprehensive recovery of victims.
